United Nations 2026: From Ideas to Action

Think Globally, Act Locally.
The Spanish Department and the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) joined forces to celebrate United Nations Day, encouraging students to think critically about global challenges and how they can make a difference in their own school community.
After reading El mínimum vital by Salvadoran writer Alberto Masferrer, Year 10 students created posters linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on this work, LRC sessions invited students to share ideas, question their surroundings and explore practical solutions to everyday issues, including food waste, reading for pleasure and water conservation.
Through thought-provoking questions such as “What if the ideas that emerge in our school could help change the world?”, students reflected on the importance of having a voice and taking an active role in decision-making.

To conclude, they responded on sticky notes to a creative question: “If Alberto Masferrer were a student at the Academia Britanica Cuscatleca, what doctrine would he propose?” Because change begins with an idea and grows when we put it into action.
